Production Incentive for Net-Metered Photovoltaic Systems
Green Mountain Power, an investor-owned electric utility operating in Vermont, offers a bonus payment to customers with net-metered photovoltaic (PV) systems. In addition to the benefits of net metering, Green Mountain Power customers with a PV system receive a payment of $0.06 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity generated by the system. This payment is available to all customers of Green Mountain Power. In order to net meter, customers must first apply for and receive a "Net Metering Certificate of Public Good" from the Vermont Public Service Board (PSB). Net metering in Vermont is generally limited to systems up to 250 kilowatts (kW) in capacity. An additional meter must be installed to record each system’s output. Green Mountain Power will reimburse customers for up to $300 of the expenses associated with the additional meter. Customers retain ownership of the renewable-energy credits (RECs) associated with the electricity generated by PV systems.
